Your Killer: A Poem
Your Killer
I loved the idea of you.
I drew stars in the corners of your eyes,
Pretending that everything was fine,
That I had no reason to fear.
After all--I was yours and you were mine.
I loved the idea of you.
Artificial constructions
Of the boy I thought I knew,
Oh, how I wish I could take it all back,
And only see you for you.
I loved the idea of you.
Sunset boy,
Shot straight from the sky,
I was your killer;
I was the reason you forgot how to fly.
I loved the idea of you.
Lenses shattered in rose-colored glasses;
Reality snapped from reverie.
Panic and desperation filled my lungs,
And through the tears I found clarity.
I loved the idea of you.
The gun was mine,
Aimed straight for two hearts.
A longing igniting inside of my veins--
To give us both our fresh starts.
I loved the idea of you.
And that is no way to love someone.
