From the Bookshelf #6

Summer's the time when I read like crazy. Here's what I've been tackling recently.

* * *

The Chronicles of Nick series by Sherrilyn Kenyon
Infinity: 2 stars
Invincible: 2 stars
Infamous: 3 stars

Ruins (Pathfinder trilogy book #2) by Orson Scott Card: 4 stars

That is all.

  1. Why only 2-3 stars for The Chronicles of Nick? They certainly look super awesome...

    1. That's what I thought when I picked them up. The cover looks AMAZING and I was super pumped. However, I felt like the 14 year old main character guy was so unrealistic and fake. The plot wasn't really that exciting, and I just felt like the author was throwing in too many side characters that stayed for about a page and then left before she brought in new ones.

      I just really felt like the books where lacking a plot of actual depth, and the whole thing just felt so bizarre and fake that I couldn't get into them. The only reason I enjoyed parts of them was because of the relationship the MC had with his mom. I thought it was really sweet.

      I think some people could enjoy the books, but I honestly just felt like it was a really strange twist on fantasy books that wasn't all that great.

    2. Hmm. Thanks for the heads-up, then. I'll have to keep them in mind for when I feel like working through something like that, just to see for myself.

    3. Glad I could help! It could be that it just wasn't really my taste in books, but if you get the chance to read it, then let me know what you think! (:

    4. If I ever do, I'll be sure to tell you what I thought! (Assuming, of course, I remember why they're on my Goodreads list lol It might be a while.)

  2. I've seen The Chronicles of Nick around and I was considering reading them, but 2-3 stars?

    1. You can read my comment above to Jessy, but basically the plot lacked meaning and most of the characters were shallow and just didn't feel like real people. There wasn't much suspense, either, so I wasn't itching to keep reading.
