Willy Nilly Silly Old Bear
I've always loved Winnie the Pooh. But my friend Evelyn taught me something about these beloved little animals that I hadn't realized before.
Each of the main characters stands for a mental disorder. A. A. Milne did that so that he could teach his children that people (or animals, as the case may be) with mental disorders, are perfectly normal people just like you and me.
Here is what each character stands for:

ReplyDeleteThe mental disorder thing, though...I get the whole "perfectly normal people part," but saying that Christopher Robin had schizophrenia? I don't agree with that.
In the book, the narrator is telling Christopher Robin stories about the boy's stuffed animal, Edward Bear. So...yeah.
I'm not sure if the mental disorders is actually what Milne was trying to get at, seeing as I heard that some people had just come up with that. BUT it does make sense, seeing as he tells Christopher Robin these stories (as I mentioned), he could be trying to get a lesson through.
I don't know. Sometimes I over-think things.

ReplyDeleteHmmm. I never thought Christopher Robin was schizzo, because he's just a little kid with imaginary friends in his stuffed toys. And hm.... if people think he's a schizophrenic then *I* would be considered that also because I Had imaginary friends. lol. weird.
Instead of having one imaginary friend, I had multitudes of them. Mostly animals. (:
