Pies and Prejudice
Hello readers and writers! Sadly today my tennis practice was cancelled due to unfortunate rainy weather. Can't play on a wet court now can we? We'd most likely brake or twist something because of how slippery it'd be, you know? Anyways tomorrow's match doesn't look quite promising either, but hey! We get to have a pizza party afterwards with the whole team! Fun fun! I'm sure July and I will have a blast. :)
Alrighty. Today's book I have to share is still in the Mother-Daughter Book Club series by Heather Vogel Frederick, but I'm going to tell you about book four. Book four is called Pies and Prejudice. (A spoof on Pride and Prejudice.) This year, the girls are in the 8th grade and there's a surprise from Emma Hawthorne. She's moving to England for a year as part of a house swap her parents cooked up with some extra money. Her best friend Jess Delaney is torn, but tries to find a way to keep up her spirits with a little fox to take care of. With Cassidy's baby sister now to look after, she's finding that having a little sister isn't all bad, and affectionately calls her "Monkey Face." (Her mom hates it when she calls her that.) Pretty soon the girls start to miss their friend in a foreign country who has to butt heads with "Stinkerbelle" (Annabelle Fairfax) after a mistletoe incident, and cook up a plan to bring her home for spring break. (I think it was spring break anyway...) But none of them has enough money on the spot (except for Megan's parents, but the girls want to do this all by themselves) so they come up with a business that they call Pies and Prejudice. (Hence the title) This book isn't all happy la-la's either though. With the English family living in Emma's house, Megan finds a little crush brewing with Simon Berkeley, and Cassidy faces an unreadable Tristan Berkeley. And there's also heartbreak waiting for them all on the horizon. What heartbreak, you ask? I won't tell you, but it is very, very sad. Will the girls' business take off like they hope? Or is it back to the drawing board for all of them? Will Emma be able to handle Stinkerbelle and a real life Eeyore person? Read and find out!
Seana's opinion about the book: This book is probably my favorite of the series so far since they all seem to be a lot more grown up and they are really funny too. I like the way she adds little touches of romance to the different characters and how each one is different from another. I would totally suggest this book to any readers that love to read about friendships and being the best you can be. But you'd need to read the other books in the series first, or it won't be as fun. As a reminder, the series are: The Mother-Daughter Book Club, Much Ado About Anne, Dear Pen Pal, Pies and Prejudice, and Home for the Holidays.
Take care,
~Seana J. Vixen

I love your book reviews! My favourite part of the novel was where Cassidy says that whenever she sees a friend drooling over a guy, she only thinks of one thing - I can beat you at hockey! She is my favourite character and I love reading from her perspective. I am also very glad that she ended up with Tristan instead of Zach! xx
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much! Cassidy is such a fun character, isn't she? I wish I was as courageous as she is. (: I'm so happy she's with Tristan too! She and Zach just weren't right together, you know?
DeleteHowdy, Seana! Have you ever thought of being a writer? I love reading your book reviews and you should really be a published author! (like Emma Hawthorne!)
ReplyDeleteHi, Miranda! Oh, yes, being a writer is my dream! Aw, you're so sweet. (: I'd love to be a published author someday, just like Emma, but I've still got a loooong way to go.
DeleteHI Seana, I love your blogs! I wanted to read Pies and Prejudice because of your review. I just finished Pies and Prejudice and I loved it. Which part is your favourite? Who is your favourite character?
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks so much, Sierra! (: I'm so glad you got the chance to read P&P. Have you read the other MDBC books?
DeleteI've got to say that my favorite character is Emma, since we're both so much alike. We're both aspiring (well, Emma's not so much an aspiring author anymore since she's published) authors, and we adore reading.
Hmm.....my favorite part is the ball at the end of the book, where everyone dresses up and has an awesome time. I so wish I could go to England, don't you?
You are so sweet, Seana! I have read all of the books in the MDBC books now. I bet you and Emma will get along just fine if we were in the MDBC world. I wish I could go to England as well, I just love the atmosphere there
DeleteSo are you! (: I would love to hang out with Emma! And of course Jess, and Cassidy....and Megan, probably Becca too. I'd also love to give Darcy a hug and thank him for being so sweet to Jess.
